You may have heard of Travel Alerts and Travel Warnings issued by the United States Department of State (USDOS) – we have discussed both and regularly post such alerts on our Wellabroad site. Another type of communication released by the USDOS is a ‘Warden Message’. These messages relate to travel or safety information and can be issued by country, by region of the world, or even worldwide.

The United States government issues various warnings that pertain to international travel. They all have different purposes and communicate various messages to U.S. citizens. As an international traveler, it would be a good idea to familiarize yourself with the unique terms.
Travel Alert
A Travel Alert is an indication that the situation in a particular country is likely for the possibility of unrest or disruption to the daily lives of those living or traveling in a specific country.
As defined by the U.S. Department of State (USDOS) - “Travel Alerts are a means to disseminate information about terrorist threats and other relatively short-term and/or trans-national conditions posing significant risks to the security of American travelers. The Travel Alerts (TA) are made when there is a specific threat that cannot be countered. In the past, Travel Alerts have been issued to deal with short-term coups, violence by terrorists and anniversary dates of specific terrorist events.”

At this time, the Healthcare Reform bill has not been implemented and the final administrative and procedural outcome has yet to be determined. Bureaucratic issues, details and the administration of the plan are still being discussed and designed. It is our understanding that the Healthcare Reform bill's intention is solely focused on U.S. domestic health care insurance plans.

As was pointed out in an earlier post, travel cancellation is up as people are airing on the side of caution in relation to H1N1 pandemic outbreaks. Because of this people are more proactively researching what type of trip cancellation policies are out there and what is covered if they have to cancel a flight.
