The New Year Brings New Travel Restrictions
By Maria Caceres | 01.04.10 No Comments » Traveling Around The World , NewsI'm sure you've heard about the most recent travel security issues that are bringing about changes in travel restrictions, so, it is going to be extra important for flyers to be prepared when heading to the airport. Seven Corners has developed a quick reference guide with a few pointers to help you better prepare for changes you could experience during your next flight:
1. Boarding crews are performing a pat-down of passengers before boarding a flight and inspect all carry-ons before you sit down, so have your bags open and ready.
2. Some airlines will be asking passengers to remove things from their laps during flight including blankets and pillows, so if you dress in layers you can keep warm and add or remove layers during a flight.
3. If it can't fit in the overhead space or under the seat in front of you, it's not coming with you on the plane and most airlines are cracking down on one bag per person. We suggest essentials like medicine and a cell phone into one carry-on item and checking the rest.
4. Expect extra long lines and wait times at the airport. The TSA is suggesting passengers arrive for their flights at least two hours in advance, allowing sufficient time to get through security.
5. First flights out are usually on-time. If you can be flexible with your travel times and don't mind waking up before dawn, book the first flight out for shorter security lines and less traffic to and from the airport.
6. Use the Internet to check in online, print boarding passes and luggage tags prior to leaving for the airport. You'll save money (many airlines are charging extra to check bags at the airport) and time.
7. the 3-1-1 rule lives on and now more than ever, the 3-1-1 rule will be strictly enforced. 3-ounce bottles only in a 1-quart bag; one bag per passenger. If you break the 3-1-1 rule, you'll be pulled out of line and rescreened, so take extra care when packing your carry-on.
The new rules are constantly changing as government officials work to ensure your safety. Check with your airline before your flight for any last-minute changes and visit the security area of the wellabraod website. for up-to-date travel information.
