Travel to the Russian Federation
By Justin Tysdal | 05.15.10 No Comments » Traveling Around The World , Tips and AdviceIn reviewing the travel requirements for the Russian Federation, I noticed a few things that a visitor to that country should pay attention to.
First off, there is a visa requirement for U.S. citizens traveling to Russia, which is rather common for many countries and your travel agent with international travel experience can most certainly assist in this regard. Additionally, the Russian government will not allow a U.S. citizen to leave the country with an expired visa, and it could take some time to obtain a new one.
Another thing I noticed was that the Russian Federation doesn’t give any special regard for the assistance by the U.S. diplomatic mission - meaning that if you were to have visa problems, the assistance of the U.S. Department of State (USDOS) wouldn’t help you in speeding up the process of correcting your visa status. The Russian government would consider it an issue to be resolved between you and them directly.
I also see on the USDOS site that the Russian Federation regularly changes their visa requirements, so proper planning is absolutely vital. Seven Corners insureds are encouraged to call our Assistance Unit for information and help planning thoroughly (or properly) for your trip.
If your future travel plans include the Russian Federation, I encourage you to visit the U.S. Department of State site for detailed information.
